Frequently Asked

How do I get a ticket?

Tickets are available online at tixsa.co.za from June of each year, as well as available for purchase at the door. School groups may email boniwe@artjoburg.com for special discounted rates.

How are the galleries selected for the Fair?

Galleries are invited to participate in the Central section of the fair by the selection committee. Criteria for the Central section are in line with international standards of art fairs worldwide and are set in order to align the fair and its galleries with international dialogues and to ensure the responsible patronage of artists.

The 2019 Gallery Lab is curated by Nicole Siegenthaler (Fair Manager, FNB Art Joburg) and Banele Khoza (Bkhz, Founding Director). More details on criteria are available on our Exhibitors page.

Who is on the 2019 Fair Selection Committee?

Baylon Sandri, SMAC Gallery (Cape Town, Johannesburg, Stellenbosch)
Jonathan Garnham, blank projects (Cape Town)
Joost Bosland, Stevenson (Cape Town, Johannesburg)
Liza Essers, Goodman (Johannesburg, Cape Town, London)
Mark Read, Everard Read (Johannesburg, Cape Town)
Monna Mokoena, Gallery MOMO (Johannesburg, Cape Town)

More details on invitation criteria and each section are available on our Exhibitors page.

Can artists apply to exhibit at the Fair?

The Fair only considers proposals from galleries and non-profit exhibition spaces. Once selected, these spaces in turn select the artists they will exhibit in their booths. The Fair therefore does not accept applications from artists. For more information on the fair sections and invitation criteria visit our Exhibitors page.

  Who owns FNB Art Joburg?

In 2019 the fair was purchased by Mandla Sibeko making it 100% black owned.
