Initiatives – The BMW Art Generation

The BMW Art Generation is a convening that brings cultural excellence together for a full day of connection and exchange through conversation, live performances and a demonstration of Africa’s lifestyle excellence for art enthusiasts on African soil.

Presented in a new format we look to break ground, extend the programme and create deeper connections with the art world. Centred around an exhibition that extends into a space dubbed The BMW Art Generation at The BMW Haus as well as taking over the MAX section at FNB Art Joburg, the exhibition will create deeper connections with the BMW Art Generation Programme and the art world.

The BMW Art Generation Vol. IV From Who’s Waters Do We Drink? Rather than offering answers, we invite attunement that allows us to emerge with opportunities beckoning a bright and radiant future on the continent. We are asked to introspect & reassess the oral histories, traditions, values and thinking’s that lie within communities. At the heart of the exhibition is this invocation of Indigenous Knowledge Systems as dynamic sources countering latent epistemic violence.

To drink from these waters is to acknowledge ourselves, communities and thoughts. It is to recognise that knowledge is always situated, always flowing, and always shared. The question, then, is not only from whose waters do we drink, but how do we drink while replenishing the source?
