A new section in the fair, gallery ARC centres solo presentations that prioritise clarity, risk and experimentation, offering a considered lens on practices shaping the present moment. In widening how contemporary work is encountered at the fair, gallery ARC deepens its role as a space for discovery, dialogue and critical inquiry.
For the 19th edition of FNB Art Joburg, gallery ARC features 3 exhibitors reflecting the varying approaches to contemporary African art on the continent.
Introducing the 2026 gallery exhibitors
Graham Contemporary
Graham Contemporary is a Johannesburg based gallery that shows artwork by emergent, mid-career and established South African as well as diasporic African artists living and working in South Africa.
The gallery is housed in Johannesburg’s commercial hub and mixed-use complex Hyde Park, accessible by both serious art collectors and the centre’s numerous pedestrian visitors. With a stable of artists that ranges in style, genre and mediums, Graham Contemporary regularly exhibits sculptural works, photography, painting, and mixed media in a traditional white-cube lay out that is amply large and able to comfortably accommodate works of all scales and mediums.
Founded by Graham Britz, the gallery is Britz’s new commercial effort after over 30 years as a dealer of South African modernist works. He has transacted on significant deals of artworks by the celebrated and academically recognised artists Irma Stern, Maggie Laubser and Jacob Pierneef, among others. He has been recognised by his peers for advocating for greater recognition of their historic and commercial value, aiding in the development of their market both regionally and internationally. He has also devoted significant efforts and resources to the production of major books on both modernist and contemporary South African artists through the commissioning of research, essays and catalogues over the past two decades.
WORLDART
WORLDART is one of the top contemporary art galleries in Cape Town and since 2004 has distinguished itself as a pioneer in its consistent programming of significant emerging and established local artists.
White River Gallery
A unique visual arts platform in the Lowveld, White River Gallery presents contemporary fine art originating from Mpumalanga, positioning the region as a distinct node of creativity. Alongside artists from the Lowveld, the gallery showcases contemporary practitioners from across South Africa and Southern Africa, highlighting the breadth and diversity of artistic practices across the region. Its programme seeks to foster greater awareness of the cultural significance of art, recognising it as a powerful vehicle for social, political, and cultural expression.
Established in 2008, the gallery is directed by Dana MacFarlane, whose background is rooted in business and corporate marketing. Driven by a lifelong passion for art, MacFarlane transitioned into the arts more than fifteen years ago, beginning with the curation of intimate exhibitions from her home. This led to the establishment of Halifax Art, which developed into a platform for numerous exhibitions, art projects, art fair presentations, and collaborations. In 2017, Halifax Art merged with White River Gallery, strengthening its position within South Africa’s contemporary art landscape.
The gallery’s ethos is grounded in meaningful, personal engagement with clients and collectors, cultivating lasting relationships and fostering transformative experiences through art.
